Homo- and Heteroleptic Copper(I) Complexes with Diazabutadiene Ligands: Synthesis, Solution- and Solid-State Structural Studies

Get PDF
The preparation of novel copper(I) complexes of diazabutadiene (DAB) ligands with aliphatic backbones is reported. [Cu(DABR)2](BF4), [Cu(DABR)(NCMe)2](BF4) and [CuCl(DABR)] are easily synthesised and air-stable. These complexes, which remain scarce in the literature, have been fully characterised, and their behaviour both in the solid state as well as in solution has been studied by means of X-ray crystallography, NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy

Experimental Comparison of Cycle Modifications to a Multi-Stage Two-Evaporator Transcritical CO2 Refrigeration Cycle

Get PDF
With increasing awareness of the adverse effects of carbon emissions on the environment, researchers within the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) community have been pushing for lower global warming potential (GWP) and natural working fluids as well as systems that are more efficient than the higher-GWP systems they replace. One such working fluid is carbon dioxide (CO2). While CO2 has the advantages of being low-cost, non-flammable, and possessing a high volumetric heat capacity, it has a high critical pressure associated with a low critical temperature, thus often necessitating transcritical operation that requires significant compressor input power. As such, numerous cycle modifications have been proposed that enable the transcritical CO2 cycle to match, and in some cases surpass, the coefficient of performance (COP) of existing hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) cycles under the same operating conditions. This work provides an experimental comparison of four cycle architectures that utilize the same compressors and heat exchangers. This enables a meaningful comparison of these modifications, consisting of open economization with an evaporator bypass, as well as both electronic expansion valve (EXV) and ejector expansion strategies, along with a pump applied between the gas cooler outlet and the ejector motive nozzle inlet for control and increased recoverable pressure differential. Experimental parametric studies were conducted, and comparisons of architecture costs and benefits are presented. Design recommendations are provided along with future work

MMP-13 Selective α-sulfone Hydroxamates: a Survey of P1\u27 Heterocyclic Amide Isosteres

Get PDF
Seeking compounds preferentially potent and selective for MMP-13, we reported in the preceding Letter on a series of hydroxamic acids with a flexible benzamide tail groups.(1a) Here, we replace the amide moiety with non-hydrolyzable heterocycles in an effort to improve half-life. We identify a hydroxamate tetrazole 4e that spares MMP-1 and -14, shows 㹀0-fold selectivity versus MMP-8 and 㹠0-fold selectivity versus MMP-2, and has a 4.8 h half-life in rats. X-ray data (1.9 Å) for tetrazole 4c is presented

Performance of Sweetpotato for Bioregenerative Life Support

Get PDF
Sweetpotato was successfully grown to harvest maturity in a large-scale atmospherically-closed controlled environment chamber. Yield of edible biomass and capacity for contributing to air revitalization and water recovery were documented. Yield was slightly less than that found in smaller-scale studies, but this is not unusual (Wheeler 1999). Continued work is suggested to improve control of storage root initiation, bulking and vine growth

Orally Active MMP-1 Sparing α-tetrahydropyranyl and α-piperidinyl Sulfone Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) Inhibitors with Efficacy in Cancer, Arthritis, and Cardiovascular Disease

α-Sulfone-α-piperidine and α-tetrahydropyranyl hydroxamates were explored that are potent inhibitors of MMP’s-2, -9, and -13 that spare MMP-1, with oral efficacy in inhibiting tumor growth in mice and left-ventricular hypertrophy in rats and in the bovine cartilage degradation ex vivo explant system. α-Piperidine 19v (SC-78080/SD-2590) was selected for development toward the initial indication of cancer, while α-piperidine and α-tetrahydropyranyl hydroxamates 19w (SC-77964) and 9i (SC-77774), respectively, were identified as backup compounds

19 pages : illustrations (some color), 1 color map ; 26 cm.Although Mesozoic fossils are quite common in the Gobi Desert of Central Asia, it is often difficult to correlate among different localities because of a dearth of rocks amenable to absolute dating. Specifically, correlating between the eastern Gobi Desert and more western localities has been challenging. Here we give a Santonian-Campanian age for the enigmatic Zos Canyon beds in the Nemegt basin. This is based on the occurrence of the primitive ornithopod dinosaur Haya griva at both eastern Gobi exposures of the Javkhlant Formation and the Zos Canyon locality

Continuing our interest in designing compounds preferentially potent and selective for MMP-13, we report on a series of hydroxamic acids with a flexible amide P1\u27 substituents. We identify an amide which spares both MMP-1 and -14, and shows 㹐0 fold selectivity for MMP-13 versus MMP-2 and -8
